BOB KERREY’S GREATEST HITS: AN INDEFENSIBLE RECORD ON ABORTION
LINCOLN, NE - As former Democrat Senator-turned-New York City resident Bob Kerrey returns to Nebraska to consider another run for Senate, voters will surely remember that Kerrey abandoned his so-called pro-life beliefs in the 1980′s and quickly became a strong proponent of abortions under any and all circumstances.
During his tenure in the Senate, Kerrey supported pro-choice nominees for the Supreme Court and worked to legislate abortion rights and oppose parental notification laws.
While running for President in 1992, Kerrey vowed to create a government-run healthcare system that would use taxpayer dollars to fund abortions – something he would later have in common with Senator Ben Nelson.
However, even liberal democrats like Sen. Nelson and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have consistently supported a ban on the grotesque practice known as partial-birth abortion. Not Bob Kerrey. He voted against a partial birth abortion ban in 1997 and latervoted against overturning President Bill Clinton’s veto of the ban in 1999.
NEGOP Chairman released the following statement today on Bob Kerrey’s abysmal record on abortion:
“Between his support for taxpayer-funded abortions and his repeated votes against a ban on partial birth abortions, Bob Kerrey is clearly out of touch with our state,” Fahelson said. “Ben Nelson alienated pro-life Nebraskans with his 60th vote for Obamacare, and Bob Kerrey’s equally indefensible record on abortion will not soon be forgotten.”
